From Chongquing we flew to Shanghai which is a modern city in every respect. Here a statue of Mao looks out across the skyline of Pudong, the "new city" across the river.

The river that runs through Shainghai is called the Huangpu Jiang which is a tributary of the Chang Jiang. Interestingly both are locally called the Yangzi.
