The end of our trip up the Chang
Jiang, which will also be the end of the new lake, was Chongqing.
Chongqing (sometimes known as Chungking) is the gateway to Sichuan
and has been a strategic military and commercial center for at
least 2000 years. Chiang Kaishek fled to Chongqing and held together
the KMT there when the Japanese occupied parts of China. The Municipality
of Chongqing is now home to 43 million people!
