The river cut through broad,
flat flood plains. You can see the layers of sediment in the banks.
Apparently a meter or two can be laid down in a single season.
The river level was dropping quickly and bits of the bank were
continuously falling in. The tufted grasses are flax which we
saw growing over 15 feet high.
