We next headed about 16 km north
of the city center to Yuanming Yuan, the Summer Palace, which
was built in the mid 1700's on the north shore of Kunming lake.
Almost all of the summer palace was burnt by Western forces during
the Opium wars but parts have been reconstructed, including these
long outdoor walkways.
