Return to the Energetic Particle Home Page
Beginning in 1994 geosynchronous energetic particle data was made available through these web pages. The result was a huge increase in the number of data requests that we were able to fulfill and in turn an increase in the number of publications that have used the Los Alamos geosynchronous energetic particle data.

1) The number of requests/month. These are requests for digital energetic particle data made through our data request page. One data request can be for a few hours of data or a few weeks of data, for one satellite or for many. (Notice the peaks before the spring and fall AGU meetings in May and December.)
2) The usage of LANL data was broken down for the period of
January 1 to June 23 of 1998. There were 271 requests or 1.6 requests per day.
The intended usage of each data request was the following:
Instrument design, satellite anomalies, spacecraft charging: 48
Environmental models, substorm onset studies, other scientific papers: 169
Student thesis projects (stated explicitly): 8
Insufficient description, PAPCO direct requests: 46

3) The number of publications/year since 1978. There is an obvious increase in the use of the data for scientific publications when it became more generally available. We also have a list of publications that use LANL geosynchronous energetic particle data.
