7.1 PaPCo Event Module

This module is in the PaPCo distribution under papco_XX/papco_modules/papco_event. It grew out of the need to annotate graphs with event time markers to indicate the position in time of a specific feature of the plot, or to plot related event times (such as the times of Sudden Storm Commencements). The Panel Editor for this module is shown in Figure 7.1

The module allows one to define a panel in which symbols to mark the event times are drawn in the middle of the panel, or vertical lines are drawn at the event times. Using the PaPCo Plot Style Group sub-widget allows the user to have full control over the type of line used. By using the Panel Compose Area buttons this panel can be made to overplot some other or all other panels, providing a lot of flexibility.

This module allows the user to define his own file of event times interactively. These are stored in text files with the extension .events in the directory papco_user_XX/papco_products/event_times and can also be edited outside PaPCo. The time format can be any of the formats accepted by PaPCo.

The Write Paneldata slice, which is used to interactively write information at a mouse click in a panel to file, also produces text files which have lines of information in them, each line starting with a time. These files can be used as input to this module, which allows for further flexibility. For instance, you can use one type of plot to get events from which you then overplot onto another type of plot.

For further information on the use of this module refer to the PaPCo Event Panel Editor help.

To use this module you need to configure PaPCo with it like any other module (see Section 3.5). The first time you use it, you also need to configure the module itself; the default location for all the event files is papco_user_XX/papco_products/event_times/ and all the efent files have extension .event.
