Subj: Work plan
Dear Colleagues,
In my recent email I informed you that SPC has approved the integration
of the spare s/c. Options for its launch are being worked out and will be
presented to SPC in November. I assume that the Project will soon inform
you about the delivery dates for the experiments.
During the discussions regarding the spare spacecraft, it became clear that
several delegations want to look into the possibilities of using small
satellites for the recovery mission. It is clear that we have to support
these
activities to ensure a smooth flow of the decision process at the November
SPC.
The next step will be, as you already know, a special meeting of the SSWG
on
22 and 23 July. We are in the process of preparing the agenda for this meeting
which will have to brainstorm about two major topics: (a) impact of a new
multipoint mission on other future solar system missions and (b) minimum
science/technical requirements small-sat's. By the way, a positive result
from this SSWG is a must for the subsequent steps.
R. Bonnet wants that the SWT dicusses the outcome of the SSWG meeting as
soon
as possible in order to pass the information then to those member states
who
are interested in the small-sat business. It has also been decided to provide
engineering support/coordination for the small-sat studies to ensure that
we
have a solid basis for a decision in November.
Realising the difficulties regarding a meeting in late July/early August,
I would like to ask you for a feedback regarding your availibility in this
period.
I hope for your continuing support in this recovery activity.
Best regards
Rudi
