Plot Description:

The above plots show the data from the particle spectrometer (SSJ4) both as a color spectogram and as line plots. The spectograms show the number flux from all the energy channels between 30 eV and 30 keV (y-axis) as a function of time (x-axis) as the DMSP spacecraft cross the polar ionosphere. The line plots above the color spectograms are the ion and electron number flux and average energy vs. time. The values for the lines plots were obtained by integrating data data across all energies. The line plots below the color spectogram show two components of the ion drift - one component is is in the horizontal plane and perpendicular to the flight path and the other component is in the vertical direction.

The above plots were created as postscript plots by an IDL program and then scanned to create the above JPEG plots. The IDL program (cenergy.pro) to create these and similar plots is available at the AFRL/VSB anonymous ftp site and the data files are available upon request.
